Cumberland County Young Democrats Win Convention Bid

Fayetteville, NC, October 19, 2009 — The Cumberland County Young Democrats (CCYD) have been awarded the opportunity to host the 2010 Convention of the Young Democrats of North Carolina (YDNC). CCYD President Charles Pennington presented the bid at the YDNC Executive Committee meeting held in Charlotte, NC.

“Our organization came together and assembled a superb presentation that exhibited all that Cumberland County has to offer,” said Pennington.

“A special word of thanks must be extended to our elected representatives who offered their support for the convention to be held in Cumberland County; Congressman Larry Kissell, Congressman Bob Etheridge, Congressman Mike McIntyre, Senator Tony Rand, Representative Rick Glazier, Representative Margaret Dickson, Mayor Tony Chavonne and County Commissioner Dr. Jeannette Council,” he added.

The CCYDs are presently exploring venue options to hold the convention, as Cumberland County may be host to upwards of 500 Young Democrats and political and community leaders from across the state.

The Cumberland County Young Democrats (YDs) are a part of the Young Democrats of North Carolina, the official youth arm of the North Carolina Democratic Party (NCDP).
